Back to the Sat Nav deals. The two biggest names in Sat Navs are TomTom and Garmin. And they are very good. However, you do pay a premium for their brand names, so don’t discount other brands, and even unbranded chinese units because by all accounts a lot of these are very good. There are also some cheaper units such as Myguide (which is a rebadged Navman) and while the parent company is now defunct, they normally use Igo software which is excellent, and can be upgraded via the SD card slot if you know what you are doing (and you do your homework on the various consumer electronics/satnav forums).

So on with the show. If you’ve never used a Satnav you don’t know what you are missing. A long time ago I used to work as a navigator for Curry’s electricals delivering fridges and freezers etc. I used to juggle the local A-Z maps and the driver and distribution manager used to toil for hours over routes. Seems hilarious now when you get navigation systems that do it all for you, and even if you don’t have those, you can just go from job to job using your satnav. If you don’t like motorways you can avoid them in the route planners and many will let you update the software to spot speed cameras and road works as well. If your mother drives then think about getting her a satnav for mothers day even, they really are easy to set up and use and older people may find them particularly reassuring as they mean that you’ll never get lost again!
